Show and tell about places in nature that were, or are, important to you. Big majestic places, or everyday places.
Who: Bill
Where: The beach on Sapelo Island, Georgia
Why: You haven't seen a beach 'til you've seen a beach without condos. My children and I visited Sapelo Island, Georgia, in October. The daylong tour left us with two hours on the beach on the south end of the island, not far from the Sapelo lighthouse. The kids abandoned all restraint and just played in the sand and tidal pools. A middle-aged couple with us on the tour took a long stroll up the deserted shoreline. And me -- I sat in the pavilion and watched the kids and tried to suck in as much of the brisk on-shore breeze as my lungs would hold. No, you don't know a beach until you've seen one without condos.
