Show and tell about places in nature that were, or are, important to you. Big majestic places, or everyday places.
Who: Gunnar
Where: Wrangell-St. Elias NP - Nabesna Road
Why:The first word that comes to mind is vast. Locating yourself in
the park is an activity of the mind similar to measuring the distance to
the moon. An unpaved road covered most of the season by snow and the rest
of the season by melt-water is the park's only road. Coming to its end, you
cinch up your backpack and wonder where to even begin.
Nine of the
continent's sixteen highest peaks, no maintained trails, no most-traveled
and least-traveled destinations. No crowds to avoid or join. Just you,
standing in the center of miles of wilderness, a cold stark breeze at your
back nudging you.
